I feel it, I know you do too. The rush of the school year starting. Even if you don’t have kids, or your kids are long since grown, the feeling of Fall comes upon all of us almost overnight. The wind changes and the air is cooler in the morning. The evenings have become darker earlier as well. And most notably, our pace begins to change.
Seasons are my favorite though, I can’t imagine living somewhere that doesn’t have them. I mean, how would I gauge my clothing or food choices. Yes, I made soup on Friday while it was raining. As the seasons begin to change we tend to desire different comforts, tastes, and textures. Our appetites literally alter, how cool is that? If we pay attention to these natural rhythms, we can stay in flow with the Earth and ourselves.
The Fall season though, it comes quickly. The rush to buy school supplies, figure out what class we are in, get school clothes… the list goes on. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it can take us out of the slowness summer often offers us. In the summer we tend to move in more of a saunter than a steamroll. We are not quite* as busy. I say quite, because let’s face it, the pace most of us have been conditioned to move at is still pretty rapid. Vacations, plans, sports, daily activities. Again, the list goes on.
For us, this summer was one of rejuvenation and slow paced living. My daughters didn’t want to take long drives or venture too far. They were content to hit the local watering hole, play with friends, swim in pools, and graze off farm share veggies throughout the day. There was simplicity in the slowness.
I think we have to make sure we consciously slow down more often, especially before we speed up.
Don’t rush beloved, don’t rush.
Stay deeply well out there my friends.
Let’s rise,
ah
